What are we letting them watch?

Thanks, Gavin Richardson for this (via twitter) Here’s the first sentence.  Go read the rest of it.

A Children’s Hospital Boston study found that Teens who watched adult-themed movies and television shows as children become sexually active at a younger age than their peers.

In case you’re concerned that I’m pontificating, I’ve also read recently that young children are best off developmentally if they watch NO television for the first 2 years of their lives.  With Eliza’s birth just around the corner, I am coming to grips with the fact that she will change my viewing habits.

  1. Have you read Neil Postman’s “The Disappearance of Childhood”?

It’s a fantastic book – meticulously researched, engagingly written, and startlingly applicable to today’s entertainment culture despite having been written thirty years ago. It also sounds like it might be up your alley.
