Why the Tithe is NOT a Flat Rate Thing

Under the title, “The rich are different from you and me, ” the July 31-August 6 issue of The Economist presents recent research showing that the better off one is, the less generous one tends to be.  Read their article; I wont’ re-write it here.

As  a pastor, I could have told you this years ago, but now I have the research to back it up.  It has long concerned me that, in general, the richer someone is the lower a percentage of their wealth they are likely to share.

Church folk: the largest contributors in your church, especially when you consider percentage instead of dollar total, are VERY RARELY the wealthiest members, or those with the largest income.
